“They came for him in the night. At 4am on April 14, 1933, the Gestapo burst into John Heartfield’s studio in Berlin. The greatest political artist and graphic designer of the twentieth century was high on their most wanted list.” —John Heartfield: Laughther is a Devastating Weapon (David King & Ernst Volland, 2015)
Translation: “The real meaning of the Hitler salute: Millions stand behind me.” (Heartfield, 1932, in AIZ No.42; published in King & Volland, 2015)
About Robin Liberte’
At a time when authoritarianism threatens to overwrite Democracy in the United States, Robin Liberte’ promotes an art medium known as photomontage to expose, chronicle, and protest the rise of fascism under the current Trump Regime (2025 - ?) and the oligarchs that support it. This bold, collage-based art form uses fragments of newspapers, magazines, and advertisements to construct visually striking, politically charged compositions. Every week, Robin Liberte’ cuts through the Regime’s propaganda, revealing the dangerous truths behind its increasing grip on power.
This visual chronicle isn’t just about art — it’s, at its core, about resistance. It’s a call to witness, question, and defy the forces that threaten freedom, truth, and justice in our country. Subscribe to join the movement. Together, we will document the erosion of Democracy and fight back one striking image at a time.
What is Photomontage?
Photomontage emerged from the Berlin Dada movement, pioneered by artists such as John Heartfield (born Helmut Herzfeld, 1891–1968), often hailed as the twentieth century’s most influential political artist; Raoul Hausmann (1886–1971), a visionary who helped shape the avant-garde; and Hannah Höch (1889–1978), whose groundbreaking work challenged gender roles and societal norms.
Originally conceived as a tool of political resistance, photomontage was a direct response to war, propaganda, and authoritarianism. Robin Liberté continues that legacy — cutting through the spectacle of the Trump Regime with sharp imagery and sharper intent.
About the Artist
Robin Liberté is my nom de plume — a shield for my privacy in a world that loves to pry. I’ve lived my life at the intersection of art and rebellion, once fronting the anarchist peace punk band A State of Mind. After 25 years battling the status quo as a climate change adaptation planner and policy advisor, I walked away from the bureaucracy and into retirement, on my terms, without any regret.
